County Kildare LEADER Partnership in collaboration with Maynooth University Department of Adult & Community Education are offering individuals volunteering or working in the community sector in County Kildare an opportunity to study for a Maynooth University Level 7 Certificate in Community Development & Leadership.


This Course is developed by the Department of Adult & Community Education in Maynooth University and aims to facilitate the development and empowerment of course participants and to enhance their leadership skills.


“This certificate course is designed to introduce the student to concepts, definitions, principles and processes of community development and to explore formal and informal community development models. It will critically analyse modern society. It will also introduce students to facilitation and group work skills as leadership tools for managing community development initiatives. This course seeks to build the capacity of those working (paid and unpaid) in the community sector”.

The course will start in late September 2019 and finish in May 2020. Classes will take place every Thursday evening from 7pm to 10p in the CKLP Centre, Naas.  There will also be 3 or 4 Saturdays through the academic year some of which will be on Maynooth University Campus.


All Modules are facilitated by Maynooth University Tutors and include:

Module 1: Group Work

Module 2: Models of Community Development

Module 3: Social Analysis

Module 4: Project Planning & Management
