Over the years the LEADER Programme has been proud to support the energy and ideas which community groups have brought forward in response to the needs of their areas. One key focus for LEADER work is on the development of facilities and spaces – to create a sense of place – important for the social interactions between all members of the community. One such project came to fruition last Saturday with the proud opening of the new Scouts Den in Sallins.

Scout Group

The 23rd Kildare Sallins Scout Group has been in existence since 2006 and were generously hosted in the local National School. However, they had a dream of having their own place which they could call “home” and in 2015 set about achieving this dream, beginning a series of fundraising events, such as a community 10k run and bake sales. A local builder came on board and then Scout leader Pat Kidney got in touch with Leader Programme Project Officer Helen Mulhall to apply for LEADER funding for the fit out of the building. A grant of €65,000 was secured which covered the fit out of the interior of the building, including the much used climbing wall.
