This week we had two very happy older people and hopefully three very happy nursing homes thanks to our partnership with ALONE.

ALONE received a very kind donation of 1,000 smartphones from Vodafone and very kindly gave each of their partner organisations the opportunity to refer individuals or settings that might benefit from having a smart phone to improve their sense of connectedness.

One of the ladies who received her phone, happened to have her birthday the week before, and Older Voices Kildare with the Gardai and her family arranged a surprise sing along for her on the day, but she was missing her family, and couldn’t see them as her phone didn’t have smart phone capabilities.

She received her phone on Saturday morning and Denise from Older Voices got this got this lovely feedback:

“This is Eileen talking to Laura threw messenger on the phone and it’s Eileen on the right she took the pic herself with her new phone all thanks to Older Voices Kildare for getting her nominated for the phone and for organising her community call visit for her birthday as well as ringing her and making sure she’s ok every week and organising meals on wheels for her my mother in law Eileen O’Leary is the happiest woman ever she loves seen us on the phone every day she still has to get used to it but it’s brilliant that she can see all of us now”

So thank you to Alone and Vodafone and to Susan from Older Voices Kildare,  and our new volunteer Norma, who are making great use of the phone to keep Eileen smiling that beautiful smile. –
