Kildare like many other communities has witnessed signs of the growing trend of nitrous oxide use. This use is evidenced through Garda seizures, as well as littering of nitrous oxide bullets (small silver canisters) across a number of locations.
Like most new issues and concerns the unknown element of it can create a sense of fear and worry. As this particular trend is occurring at a time of increased anxiety for many due the Covid pandemic, it is important to draw on the strengths within our communities and apply the practical strategies in which we use for all problem substance use.
The SWRDATF in consultation with stakeholders are circulating the attached poster and flyer in order to signpost local supports for user’s, family members and the wider community.
They are also highlighting the national guidance from the HSE who have developed practical advice for parents who are concerned about the impact of this and other trends on young people.
