Development of 5-year Strategic Service Development Plan (2022 – 2026) for Hope Cottage Family Support Service Kildare West Wicklow.

Introduction:

The South Western Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force (SWRDATF) is the co-ordinating body, providing a multi-agency and regionally appropriate response to substance misuse in the Kildare and West Wicklow area.  The SWRDATF recognises both the specific needs of families affected by substance use and the fact that family members are service users within their own right. SWRDATF and the Steering Committee of Hope Cottage supports the development of this Five year strategic Service Development plan for Hope Cottage Family Support Service Kildare West Wicklow which will ensure a cohesive, integrated and dedicated plan to guide the work, further development and expansion of the service over the next 5 years.

The Steering Committee of Hope Cottage is multi-agency and comprises of Tusla, Kildare Co. Co., County Kildare Leader Partnership (SICAP), Kildare CYPSC, An Garda Siochana, South Western Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force and Hope Cottage Family Support Co-ordinator. The committee meets 6 times per year.

Background:

Hope Cottage Family Support Service is based in Kill, Co. Kildare and provides support to family members (over 18 years) who are impacted by a loved one’s drug and / or alcohol misuse. Clients using the service are from across all the electoral divisions in the Kildare West Wicklow region. We use various different working methods such as: Providing information and resources; Key Working, case management and one to one supports; Family Support Group; Holistic Therapy; Self-care & Education Programmes; Respite; Networking locally and nationally; Advocacy and Referrals.

Aim:

The aim of the initiative is to develop a five year Strategic Service Development Plan for Hope Cottage Kildare West Wicklow (2022 – 2026). This Service Development Plan will be informed by The National Drugs Strategy (Reducing Harm, Supporting Recovery) 2017-2025, SWRDATF Strategic Review and Action Plan 2020 – 2022 (Murtagh Frank, 2019), Hope Cottage Review and Recommendations Report (Burtenshaw Rita, 2020), Hidden Harm Strategic Statement (HSE & Tusla – Child & Family Agency 2019) and Better Outcomes, Brighter Futures: the National Policy Framework for Children and Young People 2014 – 2020 (Dept. of Children and Youth Affairs, 2017)
